Q&A What are the key attributes for heading Direct Selling Entity?

Direct Selling is a people’s business. The most complicated value chain in building and sustaining businesses is the human interface which epitomes the success for any direct seller or any direct selling business. If one has mastered the act of prospecting with effective social skills of people management, you know you are destined for greatness. Our industry has seen individuals hailing from all walks of life. Communication and Presentation skills can be acquired over a period of time with effective practice and discipline. Strong command over making sales along with effective leadership are impactful in building your career in direct selling. In my opinion a true leader is the one individual who understands the value of handling tough situations, shows confidence in extreme conditions and does not worry about having limited experience.

Q&A What is the importance of Core Values in a direct selling company? How do they further affect Company’s Culture?

I wish to highlight that “Culture Eats Strategy For Breakfast”, very famous quote from legendary management consultant and writer Peter Drucker. It is often quoted that that an organisational culture is the glue which retains talent in any company. I have experienced the downfall of an organisation where exceptional talent couldn’t be retained due to a suffocating environment. The management of any organisation needs to understand that it is their collective responsibility to develop and maintain a healthy environment and provide a safe space for individuals to grow as culture is top driven. Culture in an organisation changes with the person at the helm. Culture emanates from the core values which are any organisation’s building founding pillars of success. Integrity, Accountability, Fairness, Diversity, Courage and Empowerment are in my view the defining core values in an organisation. Post Covid “Culture” is critical as it’s one of the growth drivers defining the path of your company.

Q&A Philanthropy and Profits-How does one create a balance?

As an entrepreneur we have two core goals:- Philanthropy and Profits. Every business set up is established with the idea of making profit by providing an access to full fill the need of a customer which has not been successfully satisfied. We often ask ourselves “What problem am I trying to solve through my business”. In order to give back to the society where your business is operating, philanthropy kicks in. As an active member of this ecosystem we should opt for helping others in order to help ourselves. Similarly through direct selling you promote better financial independence along with effective time management to a large pool of people at once. Because you earn returns through your investments in your business effectively you should enjoy being profitable.

The willpower to take action, desire to accomplish and accept challenges with a smile is true entrepreneurship in direct selling.
